Windows 9x, Program Manager, and Shortcuts

When you first get Windows 95 up and running, Move your mouse arrow over the Start button and click on it (You only need to click ONE time). When you do a menu will pop out similar to the one here). You should definately have the following options available though:
1.  Programs, - (These are the programs you use, Word, Excel, Word Perfect, etc.)
2.  Documents, - (This will be a list of files that you have opened last- a daily log document, picture, Excel time sheet, etc.)
3.  Settings, - (This is where your Control Panel is kept)
4.  Find, - (Helps you find folders (we used to call them directories), and files)
5.  Help, (pretty obvious one here)
6.  Run, - (lets you run program files that you know the name and location of)
7.  Shut Down. (To exit Windows and turn off the computer)

Creating A Shortcut To Your Programs:

With your mouse over the start button, RIGHT click and you will see a pop-up menu like this (The Open, Explore, Find, and Contents options are standard - others can be added on through new software packages, and configurtaion changes):
Pick the Open command and you will get a window display of what is contained inside your "Start" button. If you highlight the program folder, click on it with your RIGHT mouse button, continue to hold the button down, and drag it to an open spot on your screen (not inside any of your windows) a menu will pop up asking you what you want to do. Choose the Create Shortcut Here option. Now by double-clicking on this icon you what amounts to same thing as your old Program Manager. You can copy things, move things, find and run programs and so-forth here. You may prefer this to the start button until you have a little more experience with Windows 95. By now you probably have guessed that the right mouse button does alot more in 95 than it did in the old versions of Windows. This is true not only with Windows 95, but also with any of the new Programs written for Windows 95. Experment !!
