Welcome to the Netscape help page.  This page was designed with new users in mind, and experienced users may find very little here, but again this is just a primer - not the `be-all-end-all' help page.  If you are reading this you have figured out how to get on the Internet - and get to an address you wanted to see.  The common way of moving around on the internet is by clicking on a "link" usually.  A link can be many different objects - most common being "underlined" words, and pictures.
Getting to the address:
Many people search for information at sites like Yahooo, Netscape, Excite etc. which are websites that contain vast databases of type of Internet sites and pages.  If you want to go to a specific address (perhaps you read it in a magazine, or heard it on TV), then you can type that address in your address bar (or location box).  (see below)

As you move around the Internet / WWW / Web, you should become more knowledgeable with the ...

Home, Takes you to the first page you see when you start your Netscape program.  By default this is the Netscape Home page, but many people will change it to a favorite site, or search engine.

Forward, If you have used your "Back" button - this will take you to the page you were on - similar to the 2 channel buttons on your TV remote that let you go up and down 1 channel.

Back, If you 'follow a link' and want to back track to where you have already been - this button takes you to the previous page.

Reload, Sometimes a web page will sort of stall on you and maybe not load up all the pictures, or even the entire page.  Many times it is the design of the page, or the server it is on, or even the way you have your preferences set with your cache.  Use this button to tell Netscape to start over, and load the page up again.

etc. buttons.

Preferences:
Like any program there are many options and preferences that can be changed and set in the Netscape browsers.  In version 3.x of Netscape you can get to them by ...

which would bring up the box like the one seen below.

The followed links option just tells Netscape to remember where you have been on the Internet so that when you see a page with a lot of links you can tell by the color if you have visited that page before or not.
