November
5, 2005:
Bob Koleski and Lea gave up their Saturday in order to conduct a registerd
Red Cross Training program. Several members were certified during the
8 hour course on "First Aid" and "CPR". The class
also included training on the use of the portable de-fiblating devices.
Special thanks not only to Lea and Bob, but to Ana, the armless wonder doll.
September
2005:
Bob and Lea meet with Allegheny County officials to discuss how the local
Oakdale CERT team and Allegheny county can work togeather. One of the
main topics covered was "who" could and would respond to any given
emergency, and to what locations. Our CERT team is willing to serve
both Allegheny County, and Washington County in both an emergency response
situation AND in helping other communities setup and develop their own CERT
teams. Our CERT team is often refered to as the model of emergency management
planning, and the word is spreading. Deputy Director Lea Lester is currently
working through the red tape in order to assist other communities in the local
area.
August 30,
2005:
CERT team is put on alert and an emergency meeting is called. CERT team
leaders and members meet with Oakdale VFD, Police, and Council members to
discuss and plans for possible emergency proceedures due to Hurricane Katrina's
impending visit to Oakdale. Fortunately, we did not suffer more than
a couple of inches of well needed rain in our region. Our hearts and
our prayers go out to those in the southern states that were so totally devistated
by this hurricane.
June ??,
2005:
CERT team is put on alert. Members meet and stand-by at the firehouse
until the wee hours of the morning due to heavy rain conditions and possible
flooding. Fortunately, only minor basement flooding in several houses
occured.
February
26, 2005:
CERT team leaders and members along with members of the Oakdale VFD meet with
Red Cross for a long "all day" training session in emergency management.
Courses covered were: Intro to Disaster, Mass Care, Shelter Operations,
Disaster Assessment Workshop, and the proper paper work that follows a disaster.
September
17, 2004:
Hurricane Ivan dumps flood waters on south-west PA. Oakdale CERT team
members respond and are credited with not a single lost life in Oakdale due
to the raging waters. Members indivisually spend the next days, weeks,
months and beyond helping Oakdale recover and rebuild from the terrible disaster.
